Four women on why they love the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask

Everyone loves a cult-favourite beauty product, but we’d argue that the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask might be the best one we’ve found.
Beloved by thousands of women with chapped, problematic lips, it has a magic formula that transforms your lips from dry and sore to hydrated and plump overnight. Made by Korean beauty brand Laneige, it’s usually the final step in a beauty routine and the perfect product to end your day.
We asked four women about their experience with the mask and what they love about it.

What made you try the mask?
A friend gave me one as a Christmas present in 2020. I hadn’t heard of it before but I was instantly hooked and have been using it ever since.
What are your honest thoughts?
I really love this product – it reminds me of the lip gloss pots I used as a kid in the ’90s but it’s nowhere near as gloopy or sticky. I know it’s a sleeping mask (and your lips really do feel soft and happy when you wake up) but I use it all day too. It’s great on its own but also perfect over lipstick to give it a bit of shine. And it smells delightful!
Favourite flavour?
I absolutely loved the grapefruit, which is the one my friend gave me initially – it was so zingy and citrusy. Then when the time came to buy a new one, it was nowhere to be found in my local Sephora! I ended up choosing the berry, which is nice but grapefruit still has my heart.
What made you try the mask?
I had seen the lip mask featured in many Q&As with celebrities and influencers as a beauty product they “couldn’t live without”. But what probably made me bite the bullet was when my friend (who also happens to be 9Product Reviews’ editor!) said she rated it. I’ve been using it for a couple of years now.
What are your honest thoughts?
I don’t know if the formula is groundbreaking but I enjoy using it, and maybe the Gummy Bear flavour has a lot to do with that. It feels thick and nourishing, and my lips feel softer when I wake up. I don’t know what the point of the little spatula is so I don’t use it. Also, it has lasted ages! I’ve been on the same pot since… *checks purchase history* August 2022 and it hasn’t run out, despite using it most nights. I don’t know if that’s a good thing to admit but if people think it’s expensive, it takes a long time to use the product.
Favourite flavour?
I’ve only used Gummy Bear properly but I think Berry smells nice too, based on trying it in-store.
What made you try the mask?
I was first introduced to Laneige back in my beauty editor days. It was 2018, not long after the product launched. At first, I was sceptical, how good could it really be? But after a week of using it every night before bed, I was hooked.
What are your honest thoughts?
It’s easy to use, I apply it before bed as the very last step in my beauty routine before my head hits the pillow. It’s super hydrating and absorbs nicely into my lips without transferring on to my pillow as I sleep. When I wake in the morning it leaves my lips looking and feeling moisturised. I often tell people it’s like putty for cracked lips.

What made you try the mask?
In 2021, I mentioned to a friend (who happened to love K-Beauty) that my lips had been sensitive and chapped, and she bought me two of the 3g pots. I loved it immediately and have been using it ever since.
What are your honest thoughts?
I’ve never been as surprised by a beauty product as I was by the Lip Sleeping Mask. It worked instantly, giving me soft, plump lips the first morning after using it. Most of my skincare is designed to be preventative in the long run, and applying it is a habit that doesn’t bring me much joy. However, I’m always excited to apply the Lip Mask knowing that my lips will be softer come the morning.
Favourite flavour?
I love the Berry flavour, but since my Gummy Bear pot has lasted so long, I’m incredibly used to it and love the smell. It’s probably creeping up to top position.
